UFC Fight Night 35’s TJ Dillashaw: ‘The loss to Assuncao helped me become more well-rounded’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC Fight Night 35 bantamweight TJ Dillashaw as he prepares for his main event bout this Wednesday night (Jan. 15, 2013) against Mike Easton at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.

The Team Alpha Male standout lost a close split decision to Raphael Assuncao in his last fight, but he feels he learned a lot more as a fighter from that bout than if he had scores a quick finish like he usually does:

“I kind of went in there only going for power shots, the big KO. I wasn’t using my angles, just going for the one big punch, the one big kick and not using my boxing enough and touching my way in with a little more feints and just being a fully rounded fighter rather than looking for the big shot, the big finisher. I kind of realized that going against a counter puncher like Raphael that I needed to work on it. If I had finished that choke, I’d have thought I was on top of the world and wouldn’t have needed to fix anything.”
