MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Fight Scientist Reed Kuhn about his new book “Fightnomics” concerning statistics and analysis in the sport of mixed martial arts, detailing why there’s no such thing as a fair fight.
The top MMA Statistics Guru looks at fights from every measurable metric available. Something that stands out in particular for the betting public would be his analysis of historical betting lines:
“There’s a whole chapter in the book about analyzing betting lines historically. Historically, betting lines are accurate. There’s a little margin built in obviously, but you can make them inaccurate if you look at only certain fights through a certain lens. I describe why that happens. It’s a market price. It’s like a floating stock price. It’s what the market believes the probability of victory is for each fighter. It’s not necessarily what the actual probability is. They’re generally accurate, but I have found certain scenarios and I do write about it.”
