Bellator 108 is in the books, as a new Heavyweight Champion and featherweight number one contender were crowned. The event also featured the heavily anticipated debut of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Overall, the underdogs had no chance as all five favorites pulled through in very entertaining and dominant fashion. Jackson was on his way to losing the round before a huge blitz at the end of the frame led to a pair of big hooks connecting on Beltran’s chin to drop “The Mexicutioner.” One last punch on the ground was enough for the referee to put a stop to it. Jackson came through as a -215 favorite while Beltran came up short as a +195 underdog. In the co-main event of the evening, Vitaly Minakov remained undefeated by scoring a solid TKO victory over Alexander Volkov to capture the Bellator Heavyweight Title. Minakov was in control of the entire fight, landing heavy shots early and often and controlling Volkov when the fight hit the canvas. The capper on the bout was a vicious uppercut from Minakov that dropped Volkov to set up a fight-finishing flurry of ground and pound. Minakov came through as a -225 favorite while Volkov dropped his title as a +205 underdog. The one-sided beatdowns continued with season six bantamweight tournament winner Marcos Galvao, a -660 favorite, proving the oddsmakers wise by destroying journeyman Tom McKenna, who closed as a +440 dog. Galvao was very aggressive on the ground, taking McKenna down repeatedly, advancing to dominant positions and then punishing McKenna with ground and pound when submission attempts didn’t finish the job. Galvao put McKenna away via strikes on the ground in the final minute of the first round. In the opening bout of the main card, Patricio “Pitbull” Freire proved why he’s one of the best featherweights on the planet by absolutely crushing Strikeforce veteran Justin Wilcox in the season nine featherweight tournament finals. Freire hurt Wilcox with every strike thrown, dropping him repeatedly and he finished the American Kickboxing Academy fighter with punches on the ground inside the first round. Freire closed as a hefty -925 favorite while Wilcox finished as a +725 underdog. Lastly, on the preliminary card, UFC and Strikeforce veteran Nah-Shon Burrell made a successful Bellator debut by scoring a one-sided decision over Jesus Martinez. The bout was contested at a 180 pound catchweight and Burrell came through as a -570 favorite while Martinez failed to deliver as a +480 underdog.
