RFA 10 Promoter Ed Soares: ‘Our goal is to put guys in UFC’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) promoter Ed Soares as his upcoming 10th event looms tonight (Oct. 25, 2013) at Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

The big-time manager had no problems seeing his promotion as a feeder league for Ultimate Fighting Championship. In fact, he’s just as proud of his promotion’s fighters who get signed by UFC as he is by the fighters he manages:

“Our champ Sergio Pettis just signed with UFC. That, to us, is a success story. Goal accomplished. I was talking to Dana and I told him, Sergio Pettis is the real deal. To me, I’m excited. I have the same sort of feelings to have Sergio go to UFC as if I was managing him and got him signed. I want to see him have success there. The last two guys who went to UFC from RFA have had great success. James Krause had five fights in RFA and he goes out and gets not only ‘Submission of the Night’ but ‘Fight of the Night’ against a great veteran like Sam Stout. Then you’ve got Brandon Thatch who was in our main event this past March and he goes and gets ‘Knockout of the Night’ in his UFC debut in August. We have high expectations for Sergio and hope he puts on a great performance in mid-November.”
