MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Bellator middleweight Brennan Ward as he gets prepared for his upcoming (Oct. 4, 2013) Bellator 102 tournament semifinal bout against Perry Filkens at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, California.
“The Irish Bad Boy” entered the tournament on extremely short notice but managed to make the most of his opportunity by defeating Justin Torrey in the quarterfinals and is now two wins away from a title shot. While the stress of the situation would get to most people, Ward has a unique way of blowing off steam by surfing and skating with his buddies:
“When you work all week training and busting your butt all week long, on your days off when you’re just chilling, the last thing you want to talk about is fighting. ‘Oh hey bro, when’s your next fight man?’ Just stuff like that, it gets to be too much. My other boys I chill with, they don’t even watch MMA. They don’t even watch MMA. One guy’s a roofer, one guy’s a framer, one kid works at a grocery store. I just happen to fight. That’s my job, they have their jobs. We don’t talk about work outside of work, man. We just chill at the beach. It’s nice to not have to always be talking about it. Everyone else in my shoes does it all week long. When you get time off from it, you just want to chill.”
