Zhang and Jedrzejczyk’s recent fights
Weili Zhang (21-3) has lost two straight fights as she is coming off a split decision loss to Rose Namajunas at UFC 268 and a 78-second TKO loss to Namajunas at UFC 261 to lose her strawweight title. She defended her belt once at UFC 248 as she edged out a split decision over Jedrzjeczyk in one of the greatest fights of all time. She won the title as she TKO’d Jessica Andrade in 42 seconds. The Chinese fighter went 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Danielle Taylor, Jessica Aguilar, and Tecia Torres to get the decision win.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (16-4) has not fought since she suffered the decision loss to Zhang in March of 2020 as she looked to reclaim the strawweight strap. Before that, she beat Michelle Waterson in a main event to get back into the win column after losing a decision to Valentina Shevchenko for the vacant flyweight title. The Pole, like Zhang, suffered a first round TKO loss to Rose Namajunas to lose her belt and then dropped a decision to Namajunas in an immediate rematch. Jedrzjeczyk defended her title five times.
Are the odds surprising?
The opening odds were not much of a surprise, even though the first fight was as close as you can get and many were torn on who won. However, that was back in March of 2020 and Jedrzjeczyk hasn’t fought since then so the layoff definitely is something many bettors will be concerned about. Zhang, as well, fought Namajunas to a close split decision loss to prove she still is one of the best and has gotten the oddsmakers respect her entire career.
How might the odds change?
Money has already come in on Zhang but I expect as we get closer to the fight, money will come in on Jedrzejczyk. She is the more popular and well-known fighter and given people will remember how close the first fight was, they will take the +155 and I expect we see this line close very similar to the opening odds but this fight will see two-way action up until the step into the Octagon.
