Hispanic MMA promotion Combate Americas hosts the event Combate 40 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET live on DAZN, with prelims streamed live on Facebook. The main event of the 9-bout card features a featherweight matchup between Ricky Palacios and Cooper Gibson.
Palacios (11-1) is riding an eight-fight win streak, including five in a row under the Combate banner, although this is his first time fighting for Combate in two years. He most recently finished UFC veteran Walal Watson via first round head kick last November. Gibson (9-2) is on a two-fight win streak and is making his Combate Americas debut. He most recently won a unanimous decision against Samuel Alvarez last August.
The co-main event features a 150-pound catchweight contest between the unbeaten prospect Alejandro Martinez and Enrique Gonzalez. Martinez (4-3) has lost three of his last four bouts, but split his two fights under the Combate Americas banner, most recently losing via TKO to Erick Gonzalez at Combate Americas 32 in March. Gonzalez (7-3) has lost two of his last three bouts and is making his promotional debut. He most recently defeated Luis Vallejo via first round guillotine choke last October.
