LFA 59 takes place at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday (Feb. 2, 2019) at 10pm ET live on AXS TV. In the main event, UFC veteran David Michaud faces Christian Aguilera
Michaud (14-4) has gone 6-2 since he was released from the UFC in 2015, finishing all of his opponents in that span. The MMA Lab product is coming of a first round stoppage win over Fernando Gonzalez Trevino at Combate 26 back in October. Aguilera (11-5) had his three-fight win streak snapped in his last bout as Matthew Frincu defeated him by unanimous decision. The 27-year-old has only gone the distance once in his last seven fights.
In the co-main event, Jared Gooden faces short-notice replacement Steven Newell
Gooden (12-2) was slated to face Kyle Stewart in this spot before The MMA Lab product was called up to the UFC on short notice. The 25-year-old has finished nine of his 14-career opponents and will be making his LFA debut. Newell (9-0) hasn’t fought since July 2016 and will be making his professional North American debut. A graduate of Harvard University, Newell has fought primarily in Brazil for promotions like Aspera FC. The 27-year-old went 3-1 as an amateur and fought all of his bouts in the United States.
