MMA Odds and Ends for Monday: Weekend Fight Announcement Roundup

A few new UFC bouts were revealed over the weekend. Here they are, along with my initial thoughts on them.

Gillian Robertson vs. Mayra Bueno Silva, UFC Fight Night 137

A women’s flyweight scrap between Gillian Robertson and Mayra Bueno Silva will take place at UFC Fight Night 137, which is set for Satuday, September 22 at Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The UFC has officially announced the bout. Robertson (5-2) has won both of her UFC bouts via submission and has won three straight fights overall. Silva (5-0) is making her UFC debut as an undefeated prospect fresh off of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Based on the fact the fight is in Brazil I would tend to lean towards Silva but it’s definitely a winnable fight for either fighter so the odds should be close.

Don Madge vs. Te’ Edwards, UFC Fight Night 138

Lightweights Don Madge and Te’ Edwards will meet at UFC Fight Night 138, which goes down Saturday, October 27 at Moncton Events Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Nolan King broke the news. Madge (7-3-1) is making his UFC debut straight off four consecutive wins in EFC Africa but he has not competed in over a year and will carry a significant amount of ring rust into this bout. Edwards (6-1) is fresh off of a KO win on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and overall is on a five-fight win streak. Edwards is a super impressive prospect with a really strong pedigree and he’s going to be the favorite in this fight just based on what he did on the show, though Madge can’t be counted out.

Ricardo Ramos vs. Ricky Simon, UFC Fight Night 139

A bantamweight fight between Ricardo Ramos and Ricky Simon has been added to UFC Fight Night 139, which takes place Satuday November 10 at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The bout was reported by MMAFighting.com. Ramos (12-1) is a perfect 3-0 so far in the Octagon. Simon (14-1) is 2-0 in the Octagon himself. This is a great matchup between two prospects ready to emerge as contenders. It’s a close fight on paper but I would have to lean towards Ramos just because I think he’s the more dynamic fighter.

Uriah Hall vs. Bevon Lewis, UFC 232

A middleweight bout between Uriah Hall and Bevon Lewis is in the works for UFC 232, which goes down Saturday, December 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout was reported by Tom Taylor. Hall (13-9) has really fallen on hard times as of late as he’s lost four of his last five fights with three of those losses coming via knockout. He’s still a dangerous knockout artist himself but his chin just can’t hold up to heavy hitters anymore. Lewis (6-0) is undefeated and has picked up a couple of solid wins on Dana White’s Contender Series. Having said that, he’s still very unproven. This is a weird matchup given Hall’s experience and the fact Lewis is making his debut. I actually think this is a winnable fight for Hall but I’m expecting Lewis to be the betting favorite.
