At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of July. July 3rd – M-1 Challenge 59: Battle of the Nomads 5 (Astana, Khazakhstan) Sergei Kharitonov def. Kenny Garner via TKO (Punches) at 4:10, RD. 3 Kharitonov won his fifth fight in a row in a row when and has remained undefeated since losing to Josh Barnett at the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals back in 2011. Luigi Fioravanti def. Sergey Kovalev via Submission (Choke) at 1:56, RD 2. UFC veteran Fioravanti hands Kovalev the first loss of his career and has now won two of his last three fights. July 5th – Pancrase 268 (Tokyo, Japan) Masakatsu Ueda def. Luis Nogueira via Unanimous Decision Ueda snaps a two fight skid and earned his first win since 2013. Nogueira’s had his five fight win streak snapped. July 5th – Budo Fighting Championships 10 (Birmingham, England) Jeff Monson vs. Paul Taylor (CANCELLED) Bout cancelled per Tapology. July 11th – Fury Fighting Championship 7 (Humble, Texas) Bubba McDaniel def. Edgar Verdin via Submission (Choke) at 1:27, RD. 2 TUF 17 contestant McDaniel earned his fourth win in his last five fights. With the loss, Verdin’s had his three fight win streak snapped. July 17th – Legacy FC 43 (Hinckley, Minnesota) Derrick Krantz def. Brock Larson via KO (Punches) at 2:38, RD. 3 The UFC veteran Larson had his two-fight winning streak snapped while Krantz was crowned the Legacy FC welterweight champion and has now finished three straight UFC veterans in a row. Jacob Volkmann def. Zak Ottow via Submission (D’Arce Choke) at 4:55, RD. 1 Volkmann bounced back from his most recent 2014 defeat to TJ O’Brien with an impressive first round choke of Ottow, who had his three-fight winning streak snapped. July 18th – MMA Summer Showdown 2 (Tulalip, Washington) Albert Tadevosyan def. Dennis Hallman via TKO (Strikes) RD. 1 Former UFC fighter Hallman has now lost four fights in a row, including three by knockout. Tadevosyan has now won five of his last six fights by stoppage. July 20th – DEEP Cage Impact 2015 (Tokyo, Japan) Michihiro Omigawa def. Kosuke Umeda via Submission (Choke) at 1:26, RD 1. Former Sengoku featherweight champion Omigawa earned his first two fight win streak since 2010 as he took out DEEP veteran Umeda. Umeda meanwhile has lost four straight fights. July 24th – Tech-Krep FC: PRIME Selection 2015 Stage 4 (Krasnodar, Russia) Denis Goltsov def. James McSweeney via TKO (Kick) at 0:46, RD. 2 TUF 10 contestant McSweeney has now lost two straight for the first time since 2011. Goltsov meanwhile is now on a 10-fight win streak. July 25th – Road FC 24 in Japan (Tokyo, Japan) Riki Fukuda def. Uh Jin Jeon via TKO (Strikes) at 2:51, RD. 1 UFC veteran Fukuda has now won five fights in a row and also snapped Jeon’s two fight win streak. Carlos Toyota def. Hong Man Choi via TKO (Punches) at 1:29, RD. 1 Choi fought for the first time since 2009 and has now lost two straight fights. With the win, Toyota extends his winning streak to three straight. July 25th – Golden Fights: Cage Wars 22 (Grand Junction, Colorado) Shonie Carter vs. Billy Martin (CANCELLED) Bout cancelled via Tapology July 26th – Shooto (Tokyo, Japan) Shigeki Osawa def. Caol Uno via TKO, at 4:03, RD. 2 With the loss UFC veteran Uno has dropped two straight bouts for the first time since 2012. Osawa has won three fights in a row, with two coming by knockout.
