A new fight announcement and a fight cancellation form the basis of today’s MMA odds and ends.
UFC 227’s Bethe Correia vs. Irene Aldana Cancelled
A women’s bantamweight bout between Bethe Correia and Irene Aldana that was set for this Saturday’s UFC 227 card, which takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, has officially been scratched. Correia withdrew from the bout due to undisclosed reasons, and a replacement opponent for Aldana won’t be sought on such short notice. Correia (10-3-1) is coming off of a devastating head kick KO loss to Holly Holm and hasn’t fought in over a year. She’s just 1-3-1 over her last five bouts. Aldana (8-4) has been a disappointment in the UFC so far with a 1-2 overall record inside the Octagon, but she did beat Talita Bernardo in her last outing.
Arjan Bhullar vs. Marcelo Golm, UFC Fight Night 138
A heavyweight contest between Arjan Bhullar and Marcelo Golm is the first addition to UFC Fight Night 138, which takes place Saturday, October 27 at SMG Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick. Canada. Bhullar announced the bout himself on social media. Bhullar (7-1) is 1-1 so far in the UFC. After winning a decision over Luis Henrique in his Octagon debut, he lost via omoplata in his last outing to Adam Wieczorek, a loss that Bhullar suffered as a big betting favorite. Golm (6-1) is 1-1 in the UFC as well. He submitted Christian Colombo in his UFC debut but lost a decision to Timothy Johnson in his last fight. This is a pretty tough fight to call considering both men had their hype sapped in their last fights. Bhullar will have the edge in the wrestling but Golm should have the striking advantage. Like most heavyweight fights, this one could realistically go either way, though I slightly lean towards Golm just because I was so disappointed in Bhullar’s last performance.
