UFC 228: Tyron Woodley vs Darren Till opening betting odds

Several Bookmakers has opened Tyron Woodley as a marginal favorite to defend his welterweight title against Darren Till at UFC 228, which will take place September 8, 2018 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The bout was announced late Tuesday evening.

Woodley (18-3-1) earned the belt nearly two years ago with a first round knockout over Robbie Lawler. He’s defended the belt three times without losing it, drawing and defeating Stephen Thompson and most recently earning a one-sided decision against Demian Maia. He also holds notable career victories over Carlos Condit and Kelvin Gastelum. Woodley has not fought in just over a year since the Maia bout while recovering from surgery for a torn labrum.

Till (17-0-1) has risen to prominence thanks to his undefeated record, impressive knockout power and brash attitude. While mostly untested, he earned a prominent knockout victory over Donald Cerrone last October and most recently earned a close decision victory over two-time title challenger Stephen Thompson in his last bout to earn his shot.

Here’s what MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas had to say about the bout.

“This is a modern day wrestler versus a striker matchup. Woodley has added some power striking to his wrestling while Till is an unorthodox and physically imposing striker. As much as Woodley has improved his striking, his best path to victory is to utilize his wrestling and try to take this fight to the canvas. Till will want to keep this fight upright and land powerful combinations. Till is a younger, hungry southpaw, but Woodley has faced dangerous strikers already and is more proven and experienced. As long as Woodley is healthy, he deserves to be the favorite.”
