UFC Futures: Opening Odds for Daniel Cormier vs Brock Lesnar

Several Bookmakers Sportsbook
is offering odds on a potential UFC Heavyweight Title Fight between Brock Lesnar and Daniel Cormier.

Cormier shocked the world Saturday night when he landed a short right hook coming out of the clinch that dropped record-breaking UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic. Cormier pounced with ground and pound to earn a first round TKO victory and become just the fifth multi-weight class champion and just the second ever simultanious two-division champion.

Cormier (21-1, 1 no contest) won the UFC Light Heavyweight Title in 2015 with a submission victory over Anthony Johnson and successfully defended the belt three times. He has only ever been defeated by Jon Jones (once legitimately, and the other overturned for a drug test failure).

Lesnar (5-3, 1 no contest) is the former UFC Heavyweightt Champion and current WWE Universal Champion. He originally won the belt back in 2008 against Randy Couture and successfully defended it against both Frank Mir and Shane Carwin before health issues and losses to both Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem forced him to leave the sport. Lesnar returned after nearly five years away from the Octagon to earn a decision victory over Mark Hunt at UFC 200, which was overturned after a failed USADA test for clomiphene. Lesnar was in attendance at UFC 226 last night and challenged Cormier for the belt after Cormier’s historic performance.

Here are MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas’ thoughts on the potential contest.

“Saturday night, Daniel Cormier cemented himself on the “Mount Rushmore” of the UFC. Now, the only fights that make sense for him are big-money fights. Brock Lesnar fits the bill perfectly as he’s one of the biggest pay-per-view draws in UFC history. And for Cormier, the matchup makes a lot of sense stylistically. Despite Lesnar having a big size advantage, Cormier should outclass him in skill-set alone. Regarding the action, sportsbooks will expect a heavy handle for this megafight. Brock Lesnar’s name alone is enough to attract underdog money from the general public. The professional bettors will likely lay the chalk with Cormier. I think this is too low of a price for the champ, but the books have to protect against the popularity of his opponent. My prediction is that Cormier will successfully defend his title, and then look for another big payday with a Jon Jones trilogy fight.”
