Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: June 2018

At the beginning of every month, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article, which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article, I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of June. 

PFL 2018 #1: Regular Season – June 7 (New York City, NY)

Steven Siler def. Magomed Idrisov via submission (choke) at 4:19, RD. 1 
UFC vet Siler snaps his two-fight skid and earned his first win since Aug. 2016. Idrisov meanwhile has his eight fight win streak snapped. 

Nazareno Malegarie def. Marcos Galvao via unanimous decision
Malegarie has now won six-straight fights while Galvao has now lost four of his last five fights.

Alex Nicholson def. Jake Heun via TKO (flying knee) at 0:58, RD. 2 
Former UFC middleweight Nicholson has now won five of his last six fights while Heun drops to 2-2 in his last four fights. 

Jared Rosholt def. Valdrin Istrefi via unanimous decision
UFC veteran Rosholt earns second-straight while Istrefi has his five-fight win streak snapped. 

Josh Copeland (16-4) vs. Jack May def. Josh Copeland via TKO (body kick and punches) at 4:30, RD. 1 
May pushes his winning streak to three straight while Copeland has his four-fight win streak snapped. 

Francimar Barroso def. Daniel Gallemore via TKO (doctor stoppage) 
Former UFC light heavyweight Barroso snaps his two-fight skid while Gallemore has now lost back-to-back fights.

Tony Lopez (60-28) vs. Jared Kilkenny (13-10) 
Lopez wasn’t cleared to fiight 

Ring of Combat 63 – June 8 (Atlantic City, New Jersey) 

Frankie Perez def. Jerome Mickle via submission (choke) at 3:39, RD. 1 
Former UFC lightweight Perez gets back on the winning track after losing two-straight fights.  Mickle meanwhile has lost five of his last six fights.

KSW 44 – June 9 (Gdańsk/Sopot, Poland)

Marcin Wrzosek (13-4) vs. Kleber Koike Erbst (23-4-1) 
Wrzoesek injured 

Gracjan Szadzinski def. Paul Redmond via TKO (punch) at 1:36, RD. 2
Former UFC featherweight Redmond has his three-fight win streak snapped while Szadzinski has now won five of his last six fights.  

Wagner Prado def. Chris Fields via TKO (punches) at 2:17, RD. 1 
UFC veteran Prado earns back-to-back wins while Fields has his two fight win streak snapped. 

ACB 88 – June 16 (Brisbane, Austraillia) 

Thiago Silva (20-7) vs. Chris Camozzi (24-13) 
Bout cancelled due to Silva not showing up to the event (possible VISA issues) 

Karol Celinski def. Luke Barnatt via majority decision 
Celinski has now won four-fights in a row. Former UFC middleweight Barnatt faces 37-year-old Celinski in a light heavyweight contest. Barnatt has now alternated between wins and losses in his last six fights. 


Marcin Held def. Callan Potter via submission (leglock) at 1:09, RD. 1 
UFC/Bellator veteran Held earns back-to-back wins for the first time since May 2015 while Potter has his eight-fight win streak snapped.  

Tanner Boser def. Chase Gormley via unanimous decision 
Boser earns his third-straight win while Gormley suffers his third loss in a row. 

PFL 2018 #2: Regular Season – June 21 (Chicago, Illinois)

Will Brooks def. Luiz Firmino via unanimous decision
Former Bellator lightweight champion Brooks snaps a three fight losing streak while Firmino drops to 2-3 in his last five fights.


Natan Shulte def. Chris Wade via unanimous decision
Shulte earns his 11th win in his last 12 fights meanwhile Wade has now lost three of his last four fights.  

Efrain Escudero def. Jason High via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:35, RD. 3 
TUF 8 winner Escudero earned his second-straight win as he stepped up on short notice replacing Rashid Magomedov. High meanwhile has now lost two of his last three fights. 

Brian Foster def. Ramsey Nijem via TKO (flying knee and punche) at 0:23, RD. 3 
Foster has now won two of his last three fights, while Nijem suffers his third straight loss. 

Sean O’Connell def. Ronny Markes via TKO (punches) at 0:41, RD. 2
O’Connell earns his first win since May 2015 while Markes has his two-fight win streak snapped. 


Brandon Halsey def. Smealhino Rama via TKO (eye injury) at 0:01, RD. 3 
Former Bellator champion Halsey earns back-to-back wins for the first time since May 2015, while Rama suffers the first two-fight skid of his career. 

Robert Watley def. Thiago Tavares via TKO (accidental groin strike) at 0:35, RD. 2
Walley pushes his winning streak to 11-straight while Tavares has alternated between wins and losses in his last five fights. 

Vinny Magalhaes def. Jamie Abdallah via submission (choke) at 1:37, RD. 1 
UFC veteran Maglhaes snaps a two fight losing streak while Abdallah suffers his third straight loss.

Louis Smolka def. Tycen Lynn 
Former UFC flyweight Smolka earns back-to-back wins while Lynn loses for the second-straight fight.

Karlos Vemola def. Patrik Kincl via Unanimosu Decision
Former UFC light heavyweight Vemola has now won 12 of his last 13 fights since leaving the UFC in 2013/ Meanwhile Kinci has his seven-fight unbeaten streak snapped.
