Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: April 2018

At the beginning of every month, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article, which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article, I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of April.

DEEP Hachioji Chojin Matsuri 2018 – Apr. 1 (Hachioji, Japan)

Masanori Kanehara def. Jomhod Chuwattana via Submission in RD. 1 
Former UFC bantamweight Kanehara competed in MMA for the first time since Dec. 2016 and came away with his first submission win since April 2013. 

Phoenix FC 6 – Apr. 5 (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates)

Hayder Hassan def. Pavel Kusch via Unanimous Decision
TUF 25 and UFC veteran Hassan looks earns his first win Oct. 2014 and snapped a two-fight skid. Kusch meanwhile has his nine-fight win streak snapped. 

Sirwan Kakai (12-5) vs. Shuya Kamikubo (7-1-1) 
Bout cancelled due to an injury to Kakai

ACB 84 – Apr. 7 (Bratislava, Slovakia)

Attila Vegh (31-8-2) vs. J. Toledo Canellas (6-5) 
Bout cancelled due to an injury to Vegh. 

Lom-Ali Eskijew def. Luis Palomino via Unaninmous Decision
WSOF standout Palomino suffers back-to-back losses. Meanwhile Eskijew is now unbeaten in his last 10-fights. 

KSW 43 – Apr. 14 (Wroclaw, Poland)

Phil De Fries def. Michał Andryszak via TKO at 3:32, RD. 1
Former UFC heavyweight De Fries earns his first three-fight win streak since Nov. 2011 while Andryszak has his six-fight win streak snapped. 

Norman Parke def. Łukasz Chlewicki via Unanimous Decision
Parke is now unbeaten in his last two fights while Chlewicki meanwhile has four fights in a row. 

Gladiator Challenge “Champions” – Apr. 21 (Rancho Mirage California)

Louis Smolka wins via first round TKO
Smolka gets his first win in two years and snaps his four-fight skid.
