Here are my live dogs for UFC Fight Night 70: Middleweight bout: Steve Bosse (+185) vs Thiago Santos (-200) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think this fight is closer than the betting odds indicate. I see it as being more of a coin-flip, and I slightly favor the Canadian with advantages in size and power to get his hand raised here in his Octagon debut. It is worth noting that Bosse is dropping down from the light heavyweight division to the 185-pounds for this contest, while Santos’ is still recognized by many as a natural welterweight. Gabe’s Call: Bosse by T/KO (strikes, 1:00 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Bosse (+185) 2u to win 3.7u Welterweight bout: Alex Oliveira (-430) vs Joe Merritt (+380) Gabe’s Thoughts: I do not agree with the betting odds for this contest, as I think this fight is a lot closer than they indicate. I was initially eyeing Oliveira for a parlay, but after doing my homework on the contest, I am liking Merritt and think that he has a decent chance of winning this fight. I think it will come down to his takedown defense, and if it holds up, I see him doing enough to take a decision on the judges’ scorecards, though it may be very close. At these odds, I think the value is with the promotional newcomer, and I like him for a play. Gabe’s Call: Merritt by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Merritt (+380) 2u to win 7.6u Welterweight bout: Leandro Silva (-190) vs Lewis Gonzalez (+180) Gabe’s Thoughts: In short, I think Gonzalez is the more well-rounded fighter with the better cardio, and over three rounds of action, I see him doing enough to pick up at least two out of three rounds for a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. Gabe’s Call: Gonzalez by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Gonzalez (+180) 3.5u to win 6.3u
