MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: Jacare Souza vs Kelvin Gastelum set for UFC 224

Souza vs Gastelum at UFC 224

A middleweight clash between Jacare Souza and Kelvin Gastelum was confirmed yesterday for UFC 224 via the UFC Brazil Twitter account. Souza (25-5, 1 no contest) most recently earned a first round knockout of Derek Brunson last month. Gastelum (14-3, 1 no contest) is coming off the biggest win of his career, a first round knockout of former champion Michael Bisping last November. Both men are at the top of the 185-pound division and a victory would almost guarantee the winner a shot at the UFC middleweight title later this year.

Look for Souza to open as a slight favorite, but Gastelum definitely has a path to victory with his improved striking and power punching.
