MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar rebooked for UFC 222

Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar at UFC 222

Coming this March, the bout that was originally supposed to headline UFC 218 has been rescheduled. Frankie Edgar dropped out of the original fight after suffering a training injury and Max Holloway instead defeated Jose Aldo in a rematch, finishing the legendary Brazilian for a second straight time. Holloway (19-3) has now won 12 consecutive bouts and has finished nine of his opponents in that time period. Edgar (22-5-1 is the former UFC lightweight champion and has fought twice already for the featherweight title, being defeated by Jose Aldo on both occasions via decision. He has won two consecutive bouts including an impressive TKO finish over top contender Yair Rodriguez this past May.

I expect Holloway to open as a decent betting favorite considering he was the favorite when the fight was initially booked and has done nothing but impress since then while Edgar has been out with an injury.

Here’s an updated look at the UFC 222 fight card:

145 lb. title: Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar
185 lbs.: C.B. Dollaway vs. Hector Lombard
265 lbs.: Stefan Struve vs. Andrei Arlovski
135 lbs.: Cat Zingano vs. Ketlen Vieira
135 lbs.: Sean O’Malley vs. Andre Soukhamthath
115 lbs.: Mackenzie Dern vs. Ashley Yoder

Mike Perry vs Max Griffin at UFC on Fox 28

A barnburner has been booked as two welterweight sluggers will duke it out on February 24th. Mike Perry lost a decision to Santiago Ponzinibbio in his last bout while Max Griffin lost a decision to Elizeu Zoleski dos Santos. Both men are knockout artists, with a combined 18 stoppages via KO or TKO between them in their careers.

I expect Perry to open as a betting favorite due to his popularity and his superior performance against top competition.

Here’s an updated look at the UFC on Fox 28 fight card:

155 lbs.: Gilbert Burns vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier
170 lbs.: Ben Saunders vs. Alan Jouban
115 lbs.: Jéssica Andrade vs. Tecia Torres
185 lbs.: Yoel Romero vs. David Branch
205 lbs.: Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Aleksandar Rakic
135 lbs.: Sara McMann vs Yana Kunitskaya
170 lbs.: Mike Perry vs. Max Griffin
135 lbs.: Renan Barão vs. Brian Kelleher
205 lbs.: Marcin Prachnio vs. Sam Alvey
