The Ultimate Fighting Championship was in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for the second time in promotional history with UFC on FOX 26: Lawler vs. Dos Anjos. It was a solid night of fights that saw six of 11 scraps end inside the distance, and with the action now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Darren Stewart
Stewart lost via second round front choke submission to promotional newcomer Julian Vasquez and is now on a three fight losing streak in the UFC. On a positive note, however, he managed to take home an extra $50,000 for the evening’s ‘Fight of the Night’ honors, as the bout was a war till the finish. I think there is a good chance that the UFC gives Stewart one last chance by putting him on the London card in March, which I think is the only reason they would keep him around. Otherwise, I feel he will be getting released from the promotion.
Oluwale Bamgbose
Bamgbose lost by second round knockout to Alessio Di Chirico and he is now on a three fight skid inside the Octagon, making him 1-4 in his last five appearances. I think it is safe to say that Bamgbose will be receiving his pink slip from the UFC following this past Saturday night’s poor performance and defeat.
Erick Silva
Silva came up short in a unanimous decision to Jordan Mein, making it back to back losses for him inside the Octagon in what I considered a “loser goes home” matchup going in. Silva is now 1-4 in his last five, so I think there is a fair chance that the UFC will now release him from his contract, however I would not be surprised to see him get another fight, especially on a Brazilian card, as he is quite popular in his home country.
