UFC 162 took place tonight in Las Vegas, NV, and overall it was one of the most exciting events of the year as the card featured a number of awesome knockouts and back-and-forth fights including a main event that ended with one of the most shocking knockouts in UFC history. Overall from a betting perspective, eight favorites won while three underdogs cashed out, including one in the main event of the evening. It was one of the most shocking finishes ever seen inside the Octagon as Silva looked to be in cruise control and was fooling around with Weidman inside the cage like he’s done to so many other fighters, keeping his hands down and mocking his opponent until Weidman caught him and knocked him out with a left hook to win the title. Weidman cashed out as a +220 underdog (bet $100 to win $220), while Silva lost as a -240 favorite (bet $240 to win $100). In a middleweight upset, Mark Munoz defeated Tim Boetsch via unanimous decision after a dominant three-round outing that showcased Munoz’ wrestling chops as well as his heavy ground and pound. Although Boetsch had some success in the fight’s early goings, eventually he wasn’t able to stop Munoz’ takedowns and once Munoz got into dominant position on the ground he began to wail away on Boetsch’s head and body although the ref surprisingly didn’t stop the fight. Munoz closed as a +100 dog, while Boetsch was a -110 favorite. And in a welterweight upset, Brian Melancon defeated Seth Baczynski via first-round TKO, the stoppage coming literally at the bell after some heavy ground and pound from the fists of the Texan. It was a dominant performance by Melancon, who hadn’t fought in almost two years after an up-and-down showing in Strikeforce, but he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on as this was an extremely impressive knockout win over a very tough competitor in the form of Baczynski. Melancon cashed out as a +255 underdog, while Baczynski was a -280 favorite. UFC 162 Betting Favorites That Won In a featherweight bout, Frankie Edgar defeated Charles Oliveira via unanimous decision to snap his three-fight losing streak. It was a dominant win by Edgar for the most part although Oliveira did give him some problems in the standup. Either way, Edgar is back on the winning ways and he cashed out as a -600 favorite, while Oliveira was a +500 dog. In a middleweight bout, Tim Kennedy defeated Roger Gracie via decision to win in his UFC debut. It was one of the most boring fights of the whole night but either way Kennedy got the “W.” Kennedy closed as a -155 favorite, while Gracie was a +145 dog. In a featherweight bout, Cub Swanson knocked out Dennis Siver in the third round to win his fifth-straight UFC fight and move one step closer to a title fight. The bout was tied up heading into the third but Swanson took over with his power striking and got the TKO win. Swanson closed at -178, while Siver was +167. In a middleweight bout, Andrew Craig defeated Chirs Leben via split decision in a performance that showed off some of the Texan’s skills. It was amazing that Leben was able to survive Craig’s attack on the feet, but he did just that and nearly squeaked out a decision. Craig cashed as a -150 favorite, while Leben was a dog +140. In a lightweight bout, Norman Parke defeated Kazuki Tokudome via decision in one of the most fun fights of the night. It was a solid mixed martial arts matchup that showed how good both men are in both the grappling and striking departments, but Parke was a little better everywhere and pulled off the decision. Parke closed at -131, while Tokudome was +121. In a heavyweight bout, Gabriel Gonzaga knocked out Dave Herman with brutal punches early in the first round to get back to his winning ways. Gonzaga cashed out at as a -155 favorite, while Herman was a dog +145. In a lightweight bout, Edson Barboza destroyed Rafaello Oliveira’s legs with brutal Thai kicks to pick up a TKO via leg strikes, the second time he’s did that in the UFC. Barboza, who looks like a contender at 155 pounds, cashed as a -600 favorite, while Oliveira was a +400 underdog. In a welterweight bout, Mike Pierce defeated David Mitchell via TKO to win his fourth-straight fight in the UFC. It was a much-needed finish for Pierce, who has been criticized for his boring style, and he cashed out as a -660 favorite while Mitchell was a +540 dog.
