Post-UFC Fight Night 122: On the Chopping Block

The Ultimate Fighting Championship was in Shanghai, China this past Saturday for the first time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 122: Bisping vs. Gastelum. It was an excellent night of scraps that saw 8 of 12 bouts end inside the distance, and with the action now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…

ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

Bobby Nash

Nash suffered a first round knockout at the hands of promotional newcomer Kenan Song and is now 0-3 inside the Octagon, with all three losses coming by way of T/KO. He may have the skills to compete in the UFC, but he does not have the chin, and after three consecutive knockout defeats, I think it is more than likely that Nash will be receiving his walking papers from the promotion. He tweeted that he is retiring from the sport of mixed martial arts shortly after his loss, but quickly deleted the tweet. In any case, I feel we have seen the last of Nash inside the Octagon.

Kailin Curran

Curran came up short in a unanimous decision against Yan Xiaonan and has now dropped four straight bouts inside the Octagon. The defeat puts her at 1-6 in the UFC, setting a record for most losses by a female in UFC history. I thought it was for certain that she would be getting released from the promotion following her last loss back in July, but she was given yet another last chance but came up short yet again, so I believe this time it is for certain that she will be receiving her pink slip from the UFC. I think we have seen the last of Curran inside the Octagon, but I won’t be shocked to see her pick up a few wins on the regional circuit or in Invicta and return to the big show, as she is only 26 years of age.
