Here are my live dogs:
Featherweight bout: Alex Caceres (-150) vs. Wang Guan (+130)
Gabe’s Thoughts: I like “Bruce Leeroy” and am generally a little biased towards him, but I think he belongs at 135 pounds. I think he is a .500 featherweight, and in this matchup, he is taking on a promotional newcomer who is a legit featherweight and a potential threat in the division, given his frame. I think Guan holds some value at his currently offered underdog price of +130, as I think he should be slightly favored to win in this 145 pound contest scheduled for three rounds.
Gabe’s Call: Guan by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Gabe’s Recommended Play: Guan (+130)
Bantamweight bout: Yadong Song (-145) vs. Bharat Khandare (+125)
Gabe’s Thoughts: This is a pairing of two promotional newcomers in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Song has the striking advantage and Khandare has the grappling advantage. I expect Khandare to find success with his takedowns and outgrind Song over the course of three rounds in this 135 pound contest en route to earning a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. I think he should be a -140 betting favorite here, so I like him for a play at his current underdog price of +125.
Gabe’s Call: Khandare by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Gabe’s Recommended Play: Khandare (+125)
Women’s Bantamweight bout: Gina Mazany (-135) vs. Yanan Wu (+115)
Gabe’s Thoughts: Mazany opened as a heavy betting favorite in this bout but action has come in the other way, and I am going to have to agree with it. Even at her current price of +115, i think Wu is worth playing, as I think she should be a -150 betting favorite heading into this bout. Mazany will have a wrestling edge but I am not confident she can successfully employ it for two out of three rounds to pick up a nod here. I see Wu keeping this fight standing and oustriking Mazany, likely for a decision victory but a stoppage would not surprise me.
Gabe’s Call: Wu by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Gabe’s Recommended Play: Wu (+115)
