The Ultimate Fighting Championship was in Sydney, Australia this past Saturday night for the fifth time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 121: Werdum vs. Tybura. It was a solid night of scraps, despite seeing only three of 13 bouts end inside the distance; and with the action now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Will Brooks
Brooks was submitted by former training partner Nik Lentz via guillotine choke in the second round of their fight, and the loss puts the former Bellator lightweight champion on a three-fight losing skid inside the Octagon, following a third round TKO to Alex Oliveira and a first round rear naked choke submission to Charles Oliveira. He picked up a close decision victory over Ross Pearson in his Octagon debut but has failed to register a win since, having been finished in all three contests. He has not been entertaining in victory or defeat, so I do not think he is worth his price tag. This makes me believe that the UFC will opt to part ways with him following this past Saturday night’s loss to Lentz. I don’t see Bellator taking him back, so should he receive his pink slip from the UFC, the future will be a big question mark for Brooks.
Anthony Hamilton
Hamilton has now lost four straight bouts inside the Octagon, having been finished in all four of them. Following this past Saturday night’s unanimous decision loss to Adam Wieczorek, I think it is more than likely that he will be receiving his pink slip from the promotion. I believe we have seen the last of “Freight Train” inside the Octagon, and I think he will opt to hang up the gloves rather than move over to Bellator, although you can never know.
