Post-UFC 217: On the Chopping Block

The Ultimate Fighting Championship was live from Madison Square Garden in New York City this past Saturday night with UFC 217: Bisping vs. St. Pierre. It was an incredibly entertaining night of action that five nine out of 11 of them end inside the distance. and with the scraps now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…

ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

Johny Hendricks

Following this past Saturday night’s second round TKO loss to Paulo Costa, Hendricks is now 1-5 in his last six bouts inside the Octagon and is on a two-fight skid at 185-pounds. I would not be completely shocked to see him get one last shot, but I feel like his time with the UFC has come to an end now. I think we are more likely to see Hendricks inside of a Bellator cage his next time out. He is definitely not the fighter he used to be. I’d say he’s a shell of his former self, but he isn’t even a shell of a shell of his former self. He has hit a major decline and I think it would be wise for him to hang up the gloves rather than move on to a different promotion. In any case, I think we have seen the last of Hendricks inside the Octagon.

Corey Anderson

Anderson is coming off back-to-back knockout losses against Ovince St. Preux and Jimi Manuwa and he is now 1-3 in his last four bouts inside the Octagon. I would not be surprised to see the TUF 18 winner receive his walking papers from the promotion, however I think it is more likely that we will see him get another shot, especially considering how razor-thin the UFC’s light heavyweight division is.
