With UFC Fight Night 118 in our rear view, it’s time to head to Brazil for UFC Fight Night 119 as the Ultimate Fighting Championship has a loaded fight card full of high octane battles.
In the main event of the evening, Lyoto Machida returns to action to take on Derek Brunson. Machida has not fought since a 2015 loss to Yoel Romero and was under USADA suspension after admitting to taking a banned substance. Brunson most recently smashed Dan Kelly in 76 seconds this past June to snap a two-fight losing streak. Machida is now 39 years old and has lost two straight bouts before the USADA suspension so questions about about his ability to compete with the best anymore. This should be a very compelling main event.
In the co-main event, recent title challenger Demian Maia returns to action against Colby Covington in a welterweight affair. Maia is looking to bounce back into title contention while Covington is hoping to cement himself as a legitimate top contender. Of note, the elite wrestler Covington was choked out the last time he faced a serious submission threat in Warlley Alves and Maia can run laps around Alves in regards to submission skill.
Also on tap, a pair of bantamweight contender bouts will take place as Pedro Munhoz takes on Rob Font while John Lineker wages war with Marlon Vera. All four fighters are either top 15 or knocking on the door for the top 15 so this should be an excellent test for everyone.
In lightweight action, Jim Miller takes on Francisco Trinaldo. Trinaldo’s seven-fight winning streak was recently snapped by Kevin Lee, so he’s looking to start a new one against one of the longest staples of the 155-pound division in Miller, a man who had a killer streak at lightweight a few years back. The winner of this bout will be right back in the mix at 155.
Last but not least, Thiago Santos takes on Jack Hermansson in a battle of serious knockout threats. Santos will look for space to utilize his elite striking while Hermansson probably will try to take this fight to the floor and employ ground and pound. It should be a very intriguing battle however long it lasts.
