KSW 40 takes place at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland Sunday (October 22, 2017) at 10 a.m. (ET).
McSweeney (15-15) retired from MMA in October 2016 due to health issues but now says that he’s been cleared by doctors to resume his MMA career. The 36-year-old heads into this matchup off two-straight losses and he’ll be looking for his first win since October 2015. Pudzianowski (11-5) is coming off back-to-back stoppage victories including a second-round stoppage win over Tyberiusz Kowalczyk at KSW 39 in May. The 40-year-old hasn’t gone the distance in a fight since December 2014.
The co-main event features a rematch in the lightweight division as UFC veteran Norman Parke faces Mateusz Gamrot. Parke (23-6-1) is coming off a unanimous decision setback to Gamrot, however the matchup was filled with controversy including his opponent biting him during the fight. The 29-year-old has won two of his last three fights. Gamrot (13-0) has finished seven of his 13-career opponents. “Gamer” also competes for the third time this year.
Also on the card is former UFC welterweight Paulo Thiago who squares off against former KSW middleweight champion Michał Materla. Thiago (18-9) has gone 3-1 since leaving the UFC in 2014 and heads into this matchup off three-straight wins. The 36-year-old will be making his promotional debut and competes for the third-straight time at 185-pounds. Materla (24-5) has won five of his last six fights including a second-round TKO win over former WSOF welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares at KSW 36. The 33-year-old’s lone loss during that stretch was to top middleweight Mamed Khalidov at KSW 33 where he lost his middleweight strap.
