Bellator returns this Saturday night (September 23, 2017) with some familiar faces competing at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
In the main event of the evening, former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson takes on Patricky Pitbull in a battle of top contenders. Both men were defeated by Michael Chandler in 155-pound title fights, but there is an intriguing storyline as Henderson’s last victory inside the Bellator cage was against Pitbull’s younger brother, Patricio. Pitbull is coming off an impressive second round knockout victory over veteran Josh Thomson this past February. The winner of this fight will have a legitimate claim to take on the winner of the Michael Chandler vs Brent Primus rematch.
Also on tap, popular former UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson makes his Bellator debut against the always exciting Javy Ayala. Ayala is a do-or-die fighter who has not gone to decision in any of his seven Bellator bouts. He most recently knocked out veteran Sergei Kharitonov in just 16 seconds last November. Nelson ended his UFC stint on a 2-2 run in his last four fights including a knockout victory over Antonio Silva.
Of course, you can’t forget the welterweight contest between exciting strikers Lorenz Larkin and Paul Daley. Larkin most recently lost a title fight against Douglas Lima via decision, while Daley lost a title eliminator to Rory MacDonald in his last bout. Both men are looking to get back into the title mix with a victory.
Last, but not least, standout prospect Aaron Pico returns to the cage after having his hype derailed in his professional MMA debut this past June.
