UFC officials announced Monday that Azunna Anyanwu will make his promotional debut Saturday against Justin Ledet at UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh. This comes after Ledet’s original opponent Dmitry Sonsvskiy was pulled off the card due to injury.
Anyanwu (14-4) is coming off a TKO victory over Greg Rebello at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 1 in July. The 36-year-old heads into his UFC debut on a five-fight win streak. Ledet (8-0, NC) returns to the cage after serving a a four-month USADA suspension and competes for the first time since last November. The undefeated heavyweight has won both of his fights in the UFC, notching victories over Chase Sherman and Mark Godbeer.
13-1 lightweight Nick Newell ends his retirement, signs multi-fight deal with LFA As I confirmed yesterday with a source close to the situation, former WSOF title challenger Nick Newell has signed a multi-fight deal with Legacy Fighting Alliance. No opponent or date has been set for his promotional debut.
Newell (13-1) hasn’t competed since a October 2015 victory over Tommy Marcellino at WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami. The 31-year-old only gone the distance twice his his 14-fight career and his lone loss was to current UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje at WSOF 11. Newell was born with amputation of his left arm, which ends just below his elbow and gained notoriety for winning the XFC lightweight title in 2012.
