MMAOddsBreaker.com’s Fight of the Month for August 2017 goes to featherweights Benito Lopez and Steven Peterson at Dana White’s Contender Series 7 on August 22nd.
Featherweight prospects Lopez and Peterson went to war for 15 minutes inside the Octagon, with Lopez walking away with a split decision call after the back and forth affair. Not only did he get his hand raised to remain undefeated as a pro, but he also earned a UFC contract in the process. Dana White was certainly impressed enough with his performance to sign him, despite the fact that he did not finish his opponent. Both 145-pounders impressed in this contest, so if Peterson had gotten the judges’ decision, I think he would have gotten the contract instead, as it was an entertaining contest that could have gone either way, and I don’t think anybody would have complained about a draw, either. Fight fans look forward to seeing Lopez inside the Octagon following this performance, and they’ll be wise to keep an eye out for Stevenson, as well. Congratulations to both Lopez and Stevenson for earning MMA OddsBreaker’s Fight of the Month award! If you haven’t already, make sure you tune in for their bout on UFC Fight Pass.
