It seems the entire combat sports has shut down for the month of August, so that every possible angle related (and unrelated) to Floyd Mayweather’s 50th professional boxing match can be examined. Apparently, he’s boxing some MMA guy, so it’s not really a big deal. While that bout (and the ensuing discussion) hasn’t quite passed yet, the end of August means that it’s time to start focusing on MMA again. The UFC will get September off to a quick start, as Fight Night 115 goes down on the 2nd from Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
In the main event, Holland’s own Stefan Struve looks for his third straight win against one of the next tallest fighters at heavyweight, Russian Alexander Volkov. This will mark Struve’s 19th UFC appearance, as he closes in on a decade in the Octagon. Volkov’s UFC experience doesn’t run nearly as deep, but the former Bellator champ has acquitted himself well thus far, picking up wins in his first two UFC bouts. Those performances have helped make Volkov the slight -130 favorite heading into this fight.
Two of the other three lines from Fight Night 115 currently available at Several Bookmakers are for main card bouts between women’s bantamweights Germaine de Randamie (-345) and Marion Reneau (+285), and welterweights Leon Edwards (-310) and Bryan Barberena (+255). The final is for an interesting lightweight contest featuring Rustam Khabilov (-330) and Des Green (+270).
Today, MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas opened the remaining odds for the Rotterdam card at Several Bookmakers. Those bouts include what was originally scheduled to be the final main card bout between Siyar Bahadurzada and Abu Azaitar. Unfortunately, the German newcomer was forced out with an injury, and undefeated Aussie Rob Wilkinson has stepped in on short notice. It remains to be seen if the newly scheduled contest will stay on the main card.
If it doesn’t, Khabilov/Green would be a suitable replacement, as could fellow lightweights Mairbek Taisumov and Felipe Silva. Taisumov brings a four-fight wining streak into this bout, with each win coming by T/KO. Silva has some striking chops of his own, as he dispatched former K-1 kickboxer Shane Campbell in short order in his UFC debut. The other possible option is for the UFC to give welterweight Darren Till a bit of a profile bump, as he seems to have the type of style and personality the UFC is looking to promote moving forward.
The other notable competitor on Fight Night 115 is Michel Prazeres. The Brazilian dropped his UFC debut, and then he dropped from welterweight to lightweight. The change served him well, as he has gone 6-1 in the new division, with the lone loss coming to upcoming title challenger Kevin Lee. He’ll be taking on a UFC newcomer in Danish grappler Mads Burnell, as he hopes to continue the run that has seen him climb the ranks of perhaps the deepest division in the UFC.
The new odds were just released at Several Bookmakers and can be seen below…
