MMA Odds and Ends for Thursday: Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee interim title fight slated for UFC 216

UFC president Dana White announced that an interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee has been booked for UFC 216 in Las Vegas on October 7th.

Ferguson (23-3) was scheduled to fight for the interim belt against Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier this year at UFC 209, but the bout was scrapped when the Russian fighter was hospitalized due to his weight cut. The TUF 13 winner is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3 in November.

Lee (16-2) heads into this matchup off a controversial submission victory over Michael Chiesa back in June at UFC Fight Night 112. The 24-year-old is currently riding a five-fight win streak and has gone 9-2 in the UFC.

Nevada commission approves 8-ounce gloves for Mayweather vs. McGregor

The Nevada State Athletic Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to grant a request from the camps of Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to allow eight-ounce gloves to be used for “The Money Fight” on August 26th at T-Mobile Arena. It should be noted three stipulations were also added to the approval. The first is that the eight-ounce gloves and their alternate must be approved by NSAC Chairman Anthony Marnell and executive director Bob Bennett. In addition, the gloves must be submitted to the NSAC after the fight. Finally, those gloves may be used for a study on glove size conducted by the NSAC.
