The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to action for the last time in about a month with UFC Fight Night 114 next Saturday (August 5, 2017) in Mexico City, Mexico. It will be the organization’s only event in August, as the UFC takes a break to fully promote the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor mega-fight on August 26th in Las Vegas.
Headlining UFC Fight Night 114 will be a flyweight matchup between a pair of young up-and-coming 125-pounders in Sergio Pettis and Brandon Moreno. Pettis has won three straight bouts, including victories over former title challengers Chris Cariaso and John Moraga. Moreno — a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter Season 24 — made a huge splash in his UFC debut by finishing Louis Smolka, and he is currently riding an 11-fight winning streak. The winner of this bout could be in line for a title shot or one fight away.
The co-main event will feature top Mexican women’s strawweight Alexa Grasso as she battles veteran Randa Markos. Grasso is coming off her first career loss, but she doesn’t want a tune-up fight and will instead square off opposite the ninth-ranked strawweight in the world.
Also of note, Rashad Evans will take on popular slugger Sam Alvey. The former light heavyweight champion drops to middleweight for the second time in his career.
