MMAFighting.com reports that the UFC will be holding a Fight Night card in Pittsburgh, PA, and they have already added two matchups – Mike Perry vs. Thiago Alves and Hector Lombard vs. Anthony Smith. No venue has been named yet for the event.
Perry (10-1) is coming off an impressive TKO victory over Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 108 in April, which pushed his UFC record to 3-1. “Platinum” has won all of his fights by knockout and only made it to the third round twice in his career. Alves (22-11) recently snapped a two-fight skid by defeating Patrick Cote via unanimous decision at UFC 210 in April as well. The American Top Team standout will be competing for just the third time since 2016.
Lombard (37-7-1) heads into this matchup on a three-fight losing streak, including a unanimous-decision setback against Johny Hendricks at UFC Fight Night 105 in February. The former Bellator middleweight champion will be looking for his first win since 2014. Smith (27-12) is coming off back-to-back knockout victories over Elvis Mutapcic and Andrew Sanchez. The 28-year-old has won 10 of his last 11 fights.
Stipe Miocic vs. Cain Velasquez set for UFC 216 in Las Vegas As we confirmed Wednesday with a source close to the situation, Stipe Miocic (17-2) will defend his heavyweight title against Cain Velasquez (14-2) at UFC 216 in Las Vegas on October 7th.
MMAFighting.com spoke to Miocic’s management late Wednesday, and they refuted the report. But we stand firm on our source, as well as the initial source from BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor, who first broke the story.
