The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was live from Oklahoma City, OK for the third time in promotional history last Sunday (June 25, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 112: Chiesa vs. Lee. It was a solid night of action that saw five of 13 bouts end inside the distance. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to four fighters for “Performance of the Night” honors (listed below). The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakers.
Kevin Lee earned honors for his first-round rear-naked choke submission of Michael Chiesa, despite the controversy surrounding it. It was an impressive outing by Lee, who practically dominated the fight from the opening bell, quickly taking Chiesa’s back and threatening with a rear naked choke. The victory puts “The Motown Phenom” at five in a row inside the Octagon, and he hopes to make it six straight in a headlining role in his native Detroit this December.
Tim Boetsch took home a bonus for his second-round TKO of former UFC welterweight champion Johnny Hendricks. After a close first round, Boetsch came out strong in the second and put “Bigg Rigg” away with a beautiful head-kick followed by some nasty uppercuts. It was a solid outing by Boetsch, who returns to the win column following a first-round submission loss to Jacare Souza.
Dominick Reyes pocketed bonus money for his first-round TKO of Joachim Christensen, which came just under a minute into the stanza. It was a picture perfect promotional debut for Reyes, who remained undefeated with the highlight-reel finish. Fight fans are certainly looking forward to seeing this light heavyweight back inside the Octagon, giving the razor-thin division some fresh blood with high potential.
Jeremy Kimball was rewarded for his first-round TKO of Josh Stansbury. “Gorilla” landed clean early and dropped Stansbury. Then he followed up with some brutal ground-and-pound to force the referee stoppage, ultimately picking up his first UFC victory following a first-round TKO loss to Marcos Rogerio de Lima earlier this year. It was an excellent outing by the 23-year old, who looks to get back inside the Octagon soon.
Other noteworthy performances:
– Clay Guida defeated Erik Koch via unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards in classic Clay Guida fashion. After dropping the first round, “The Carpenter” came out like a man possessed in the second and third rounds, using his superior wrestling to take the fight to the mat and dominate Koch, who is generally known for his superb takedown defense. It was a fantastic outing for the 35-year-old veteran, who does not appear to be slowing down as some suspected.
– Jared Gordon defeated Michel Quinones via TKO in the second round of action to remain undefeated in what was the promotional debut for both 155-pound fighters.
