The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Auckland, New Zealand for the second time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 110: Hunt vs. Lewis. It was an entertaining night of action that saw six of 11 bouts end inside the distance. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for “Performance of the Night” and two fighters for “Fight of the Night.” The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakers.
The post-fight bonus winners were…
Dan Hooker earns Performance of the Night for his second-round knee knockout of veteran Ross Pearson. It was a very close, back-and-forth fight until Hooker landed a knee flush, putting the Brit out cold immediately. It was an impressive outing by the New Zealand native, who picks up his first win as a lightweight and returns to the win column.
Ben Nguyen earns Performance of the Night for his first-round rear-naked choke victory over recent UFC flyweight title challenger Tim Elliott. It was arguably the most impressive outing of Nguyen’s professional mixed martial arts career, as he was able to make quick work of Elliott, earning the phenomenal first-round finish.
Noteworthy Performance(s):
– Derek Brunson defeated Dan Kelly via first-round knockout to snap his two fight losing streak.
– Ion Cutelaba defeated Henrique da Silva via first-round knockout to return to the win column.
– Vinc Pichel defeated Damien Brown via first-round knockout in his return to the Octagon following an extended layoff, and he now enjoys three straight victories.
Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis earn Fight of the Night for their four-round battle on the evening’s main card, where Lewis ultimately gassed out, and the referee was forced to stop the fight to save him from Hunt. It started off fun, but it certainly wasn’t for the last couple of rounds. It may have been the best fight of the night, but I don’t think it warranted the bonus. They should have given out four performance bonuses instead, as Brunson, Cutelaba and Pichel were all more deserving of an extra $50,000 than either Hunt or Lewis.
Noteworthy Fight(s):
– None.
