The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be returning to Auckland, New Zealand for the second time in promotional history this Saturday (June 10, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 110: Lewis vs. Hunt. The 12-fight card is set to kick off with preliminary action on UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET. Here are my live dogs for the main card…
Heavyweight bout: Derrick Lewis (-120) vs. Mark Hunt (+100)
Gabe’s Thoughts: Hunt is on a decline, but nonetheless, I think he is a bad matchup for Lewis. “The Black Beast” is going to be outmatched and outgunned on the feet against Hunt, and I don’t think he will find much success with his takedown attempts. I think this fight stays standing, and I see Hunt getting the better of Lewis, likely knocking him out. The only way I see Lewis winning this fight is by catching Hunt clean on the feet, and the odds of that happening definitely don’t warrant him being a -120 favorite. I think Hunt should be at least a 2-to-1 betting favorite heading into this bout, so I see great value in him at his current offering price of +100. If he were not on an apparent decline, I would have said 3-to-1.
Gabe’s Call: Hunt by T/KO (punch, 1:32 round 1)
Gabe’s Recommended Play: Hunt (+100)
Lightweight bout: Dan Hooker (-215) vs. Ross Pearson (+165)
Gabe’s Thoughts: I am in complete disagreement with the current betting odds, as I think Pearson should be heavily favored in this matchup. I believe Pearson should be -250, so I see tremendous value in him at his current offering underdog price of +165. He opened as a slight betting favorite at -130, with the return on Hooker being -110, but the public came in heavy on Hooker, making him a big -215 favorite. Maybe Pearson is sick or injured, and others know something I don’t, but I see this as being Pearson’s fight to lose. He will have a clear advantage on the feet and won’t be easy to take down. I can’t make sense of the current line movement. I think as long as he doesn’t get caught, Pearson wins this fight handily, either by unanimous decision or TKO stoppage.
Gabe’s Call: Pearson by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Gabe’s Recommended Play: Pearson (+165)
