Post-UFC 212: On the Chopping Block

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the eight time in promotional history last Saturday (June 3, 2017) with UFC 212: Aldo vs. Holloway. It was a solid night of scraps that saw nine of 12 bouts end inside the distance. and with the fights now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon…

ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

Oluwale Bamgbose

Bamgbose suffered a second-round TKO loss to Paulo Borrachinha and is now on a two-fight losing streak inside the Octagon (1-3 in the UFC overall). He was getting the better of the Brazilian in the early going of the bout but was doing too much. He looked like he was being controlled by a baby playing a UFC game and pushing all the buttons. He gassed himself out and ended up losing. This was a very winnable fight for him, but much like his previous bout against Cezar Ferreira, his cardio cost him here. At this point, I think it is 50/50 as to whether we will see “The Holy War Angel” back inside the Octagon or not.

Jim Wallhead

Wallhead made his promotional debut against Jessin Ayari and lost a controversial split decision. In his second attempt at a first UFC win this past weekend in Rio de Janeiro, he took on Luan Chagas and lost the bout via second-round rear-naked choke submission. He is now 0-2 with the promotion and stands the risk of receiving a pink slip. Like Bamgbose, I think it is 50/50 whether he gets released or not. I would personally like to see him get another crack. Should he get one, I think it would most likely be on a European card.
