MMA Odds and Ends for Thursday: Korean Zombie vs. Ricardo Lamas set for UFC 214, Gokhan Saki signs with UFC

Per ‘UFC Tonight,” three new  fights have been added to UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, CA, including “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung vs. Ricardo Lamas, Aljamain Sterling vs. Renan Barao and Sage Northcutt vs. Claudio Puelles.

Jung (14-4) made a successful return to the Octagon after a three-and-a-half year layoff, knocking out Dennis Bermudez in the first round at UFC Fight Night 104. The 30-year-old has now won four of his last five fights, with his lone loss coming against Jose Aldo at UFC 163.

Lamas (17-5), is coming off a submission victory over Charles Oliveira at The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America Finale in Mexico City. The former title challenger has alternated between wins and losses in his last four fights.

Sterling (13-2) heads into this matchup off a unanimous-decision win over Augusto Mendes at UFC on FOX 24. Barao (34-4-1) returns to bantamweight for the first time since 2014 and is coming off a unanimous-decision victory against Phillipe Nover at UFC Fight Night 95 back in September.

Northcutt (8-2) heads into this matchup off a second-round submission setback to Mickey Gall at UFC on FOX 22 in December at welterweight. “Super” returns back to the lightweight division, where he last defeated Enrique Martin at UFC 200 last July. Puelles (7-2) lost via TKO to Martin Bravo at UFC Fight Night 98 in the Season 3 finals of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America.”

Jeremy Kennedy vs. Kyle Bochniak set for UFC on FOX 25 in Long Island

UFC officials annouced Wendesday that a featherweight matchup pitting Jeremy Kennedy vs. Kyle Bochniak has been added to UFC on FOX 25 on July 22nd.

Kennedy (10-0) has won two straight fights in the Octagon by unanimous decision, taking out Alex Ricci in a lightweight contest at UFC on FOX 21 and recently defeating Rony Jason at UFC Fight Night 106 this past March. The 24-year-old will compete in the United States for the first time in his career.

Bochniak (7-1) was slated to fight Godofredo Pepey at UFC Fight Night 106 but had to pull out due to injury. He also competed at UFC on FOX 21, where he defeated Enrique Barzola by split decision. The win pushed his record to 1-1 in the Octagon, as he lost his promotional debut to Charles Rosa.

Kickboxing standout Gokhan Saki signs with UFC

UFC.com broke the news early Thursday morning that Gokhan “The Rebel” Saki has signed with the Las Vegas-based organization. No opponent or date for his promotional debut has been scheduled.

Saki (0-1 MMA, 83-12-1 NC Kickboxing) boasts 59 wins by knockout and hasn’t competed in MMA since a 2004 setback to UFC veteran James Zikic. The 33-year-old has fought the likes of Tyrone Spong, Melvin Manhoef, Rico Verhoeven and Alistair Overeem in the kickboxing ring. Stay tuned to MMAOddsBreaker.com as more updates become available.
