Top featherweight Zabit Magomedsharipov signs with the UFC
The MMA Kings (later confirmed by Ariel Helwani) broke the news Tuesday that former ACB featherweight champion Zabit Magomedsharipov has officially signed with the UFC. Magomedsharipov (12-1) is currently riding an eight-fight win streak, including a first-round TKO victory against Valdines Silva in his last fight at ACB 45.
The 25-year-old Russian trains with former UFC champion Frankie Edgar and former WSOF champ Marlon Moraes. Our very own Gabe Killian spoke with Magomedsharipov prior to him singing with the Las Vegas-based promotion (see video below).
Chase Sherman now faces newcomer Rashad Coulter at UFC 211
UFC officials announced Tuesday that Dmitry Poberezhets is out out of his fight with Chase Sherman at UFC 211. Instead, LFA heavyweight Rashad Coulter has been tabbed as a replacement. Coulter (8-1) is coming off a 38-second knockout win over Larry Hopkins at LFA 1 back in January. The 35-year-old heads into his promotional debut on a five-fight win streak, with all of those victories coming by knockout.
Sherman (9-3) was actually a replacement fighter for Jarjis Danho (injury) against Poberezhets and now faces a new opponent. The 27-year-old has come up short in both of his UFC outings, losing to Justin Ledet and Walt Harris. If you missed it on Tuesday, I spoke to Sherman in an exclusive interview to talk about his new opponent Coulter.
