MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: Valérie Létourneau officially signs with Bellator, Tom Breese injured

Former UFC title challenger Valérie Létourneau signs with Bellator

Ariel Helwani broke the news Friday, then confirmed on Monday that former UFC strawweight title challenger Valérie Létourneau has signed with Bellator MMA. Létourneau (8-6) heads into her promotional debut off three straight losses, suffering setbacks to Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Joanne Calderwood and most recently Viviane Pereira this past December at UFC 206. Following her recent skid, the American Top Team product was released from the UFC earlier this year.

The 33-year-old Létourneau has had trouble in the past making the 115-pound strawweight limit in the UFC and will fit in nicely into Bellator’s 125-pound flyweight division. She tried out for Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter but was eliminated after losing by first-round submission to Roxanne Modafferi.

Létourneau was given a second chance on short notice at UFC 174 where she took home a split-decision victory over Elizabeth Phillips in June 2014. She followed that up with wins over Jessica Rakoczy and Maryna Moroz which earned her a title shot against Jędrzejczyk at UFC 193. Stay tuned to updates on MMAOddsBreaker.com to find out when Letourneau will make her promotional debut.

UFC middleweight Tom Breese announces torn ACL, UFC return unknown

UFC middleweight Tom Breese announced on his Instagram Monday that he’s torn his ACL, and there is no timetable for his return. Breese (10-1) was pulled at the last minute from a scheduled bout with Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC Fight Night 107 back in March due to an irregularity with his heart rate. The 25-year-old suffered the first setback of his career in his last fight, enduring a split-decision loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 199.
