The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Kansas City, MO for the first time in promotional history last Saturday (April 15, 2017) with UFC on FOX 24: Johnson vs. Reis. It was an entertaining night of action that saw six of 13 bouts end inside the distance. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for “Performance of the Night” and two fighters for “Fight of the Night.” The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakers.
The post-fight bonus winners were…
Tim Elliott and Louis Smolka earn Fight of the Night honors for their three-round battle on the televised prelims for UFC on FOX 24 in Elliott’s backyard of Kansas City, where he had the crowd’s full support. It was an incredible, back-and-forth affair that saw both fighters have their moments, but it was Elliott who made the difference with his wrestling, edging out each for for a unanimous 30-27 call on the judges’ scorecards.
Noteworthy fight(s):
– Rose Namajunas defeated Michelle Waterson via second-round rear-naked choke submission.
Demetrious Johnson earns Performance of the Night for his third-round armbar submission victory over decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Wilson Reis. It was yet another outstanding performance by the champion, who notched his 10th successful UFC flyweight title defense, tying former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s record, which he will be attempting to break his next time out.
Robert Whittaker earns Performance of the Night for his second-round TKO of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, ultimately cementing his status as one of the elite at 185 pounds. It was an incredible, picture perfect performance by Whittaker, who used his superior striking to hurt “Jacare” and allow for a ground-and-pound TKO finish on the mat. A surprise outcome to many, Whittaker is certainly making noise in the UFC’s middleweight division and now in the 185-pound title picture.
Noteworthy Performance(s):
– Namajunas’ aforementioned second-round rear-naked choke submission win over Michelle Waterson.
– Anthony Smith defeated Andrew Sanchez via come-from-behind third-round knockout. The highlight-reel victory puts him at two straight inside the Octagon, with both victories coming by way of T/KO.
– Zak Cummings defeated veteran Nathan Coy via first-round technical guillotine choke submission.
