MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: Bowles Tests Positive For Elevated T/E Ratio

brian-bowles Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer today emailed MMAOddsbreaker.com with the drug testing results for the recent UFC 160 event, and Brian Bowles tested positive for elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) levels and willy likely be suspended, although he can appeal the suspension. Bowles tested positive for a T/E ratio of over 20:1. The legal limit in Nevada is 6:1. This is very disappointing news for Bowles, who could be cut from the UFC following this positive drug test. Bowles, the former WEC bantamweight champion, has lost his last two fights by stoppage, including a TKO loss to George Roop at UFC 160 that came in Bowles’ first fight in over 18 months, and this positive test is not going to help. Bowles opened at nearly 4-to-1 over Roop and closed at just under 3-to-1 and his surprising loss killed many bettors’ parlays. As for the positive test, it’s not yet known what banned substance Bowles took, but regardless it appears as though he was cheating and now that he got caught he’ll have to face the consequences. Markes/Brunson Scratched UFC middleweight Ronny Markes was involved in a car accident today and his fight tomorrow at UFC on FUEL TV 10 against Derek Brunson has been scratched at the last minute. According to MMAjunkie.com, the accident happened when Markes was travelling with Nova Uniao coach Andres Pederneiras to a motel to cut weight when their car rear-ended another car, causing Markes — a massive middleweight who was already weakened from his weight cut — to fly forward and bang his head and temporarily lose consciousness. Markes injured a few body parts in the accident but thankfully nothing serious happened and he’ll likely return to the cage in a few months when he’s all healed up. Both fighters will receive their show money from the UFC, and the UFC on FUEL TV 10 card will go on with 12 fights (unless another fight is scratched tomorrow).
