MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: UFC announces upcoming events in Scotland, Netherlands and Poland

480 UFC announces upcoming events in Scotland, Netherlands and Poland On Thursday UFC officials announced three new events on the European circuit. The first stop will be Glasgow, Scotland at the SSE Arena, which is set for July 16th. The Las Vegas-based promotion held its first event in Glasgow in 2015, when current middleweight champion Michael Bisping defeated Thales Leites by unanimous decision in the main event. On September 2nd, the promotion will return to Rotterdam for the first time since last May. Alistair Overeem vs. Andrei Arlovski headlined that card last year. The final event will take place in Poland’s Gdansk at the Ergo Arena. The last event held in Poland featured Mirko Filipovic earning revenge against Gabriel Gonzaga in a rematch. Joe Carr, senior vice president of the UFC, had the following to say about these upcoming cards… “Europe remains an incredibly important market for our business and has been key to the international growth we’ve seen in recent years,” stated international and content. “It was only right that we committed to delivering these three events in the region in 2017. Our debut events in Glasgow and Rotterdam not only sold out, but were among the most successful that we held in 2015 and 2016 respectively, so the decision to return to those cities was an easy one for us. Returning to Poland made complete sense when you consider the fan following we have and level of talent our roster of athletes continues to showcase. We now have four European champions, and when you add to that the exponential growth in this market, it’s exciting to consider what the future of European MMA will look like.” Next Saturday’s Bellator 175 lineup complete with 16 fights Bellator officials announced Thursday the final lineup for Bellator 175, which features a main event rematch between Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal.
