UFC Fight Night 106: Belfort vs. Gastelum Date: March 11, 2017 Arena: Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste City: Fortaleza, Brazil The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in back in Fortaleza, Brazil for the second time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 106: Belfort vs. Gastelum. The 12-fight main card is scheduled to kick off with preliminary on UFC Fight Pass at 7:30pm ET. The prelims will then continue on FOX Sports 1 at 8pm, and the main card will follow on the same channel at 10pm. If interested in wagering on any bouts for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Here are my plays: Flyweight bout: Ray Borg (-130) vs Jussier Formiga (+110) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think Formiga holds value here at his current underdog price of +110, as I think he should be a slight betting favorite heading into this 125-pound contest scheduled for three rounds. On the feet, it’s a toss up, and on the mat, it’s likely a toss up, as well, but Formiga has looked better against the better opposition, and this fight is taking place in his backyard of Brazil, which is why I slightly lean towards him to get his hand raised in this matchup. To conclude, I think the Brazilian is worth a play at plus money. Gabe’s Call: Formiga by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Formiga (+110) Featherweight bout: Jeremy Kennedy (-115) vs Rony Jason (-105) Gabe’s Thoughts: At this point in their careers, I think Kennedy is the superior fighter heading into this matchup. This will be his featherweight debut in the UFC, as he made his Octagon debut in the lightweight division against Alessandro Ricci. He won that bout by unanimous decision and dropped down to his natural weight class of 145-pounds, and “JBC” plans to make a run in the UFC’s featherweight division starting with an impressive victory over Brazil’s Jason in his own backyard in Fortaleza. As long as he avoids getting caught in a submission, I favor the undefeated Canadian to get his hand raised in this contest. I am not sure if he will make it a convincing, one-sided fight, or if he will grind out a close and ugly decision, but I do think he has what it takes to get the job done against Jason. I believe that Kennedy has the brighter future of the two in the promotion, and I see him keeping his undefeated record intact tomorrow night. Gabe’s Call: Kennedy by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Kennedy (-115) All of my content and plays are free. Your support is greatly appreciated.
