Live Dogs for the UFC 209 Prelims

Cynthia CalvilloUFC 209 Date: March 4, 2017 Arena: T-Mobile Arena City: Las Vegas, NV The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV this Saturday night (March 4, 2017) with UFC 209: Woodley vs. Thompson II. The action-packed fight card is stacked with 12 scheduled bouts that are set to kick off with preliminary action on UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET. Preliminary action will then continue on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m., with the main card getting underway at 10 p.m. on Pay-Per-View. If interested in wagering on any UFC 209 bouts, all betting lines will be made available to you at Several Bookmakers. Here are my live dogs: Heavyweight bout: Mark Godbeer (-145) vs. Daniel Spitz (+125) Gabe’s Thoughts: Godbeer is coming off a first-round rear=naked choke submission loss to Jusitn Ledet in what was his promotional debut, and he will be looking to bounce back into the win column while simultaneously picking up his first UFC victory when he welcomes promotional newcomer Spitz to the Octagon. Spokane’s Sikjitsu fighter Spitz is undefeated at 4-0 as a professional mixed martial artist and is very green, though I think he is generally the better fighter of the two and should be slightly favored at the sportsbooks heading into this matchup. Godbeer is the veteran here and the superior striker, and while Spitz is not an excellent grappler, I think he is good enough to take this fight to the mat and potentially find a fight-ending submission, if not cruise to a unanimous decision win on the judges’ scorecards. I am not high on Spitz, but I think this is a winnable fight for him. I favor him to get his hand raised on Saturday and remain undefeated. I think Spitz at +125 is the right side. Gabe’s Call: Spitz by Submission (rear naked choke, 3:44 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Spitz (+125) Strawweight bout: Amanda Cooper (-150) vs. Cynthia Calvillo (+100) Gabe’s Thoughts: Cooper suffered a first-round brabo-choke submission loss to Tatianna Suarez in her Octagon debut but bounced back with a unanimous-decision win over Anna Elmose and now seeks a two-fight winning streak when she squares off against UFC newcomer Calvillo. The Californian Calvillo will be looking to impress and keep her undefeated record intact with a dominant performance against Cooper. I think Calvillo should be a -170 betting favorite heading into this contest, so I really like her for a play at her current offering price of +100. Cooper is the superior boxer of the two, but I am not convinced she will be able to outstrike Calvillo. That said, I think Calvillo will find success with her takedowns, and we’ll see this bout take place largely on the mat, where I think Calvillo will cruise to a unanimous-decision victory on the judges’ scorecards, potentially securing a submission along the way. Gabe’s Call: Calvillo by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Calvillo (+100) All of my content and plays are free. Your support is greatly appreciated.
