UFC on Fuel TV 10: June 8, 2013 Ginásio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil UFC Welterweight Contender Erick Silva (-305) Profile: One of the most promising talents in any weight division in the UFC, inaugural Jungle Fight welterweight champ Erick Silva (14-3) has dominated nearly everyone in his path. After knocking out Luis Ramos in 40 seconds in his UFC 134 debut, the 28-year-old Brazilian’s second UFC fight was at first thought to be another victory in less than a minute, then he was given the loss due to strikes to the back of the head. He made up for his loss with an incredible performance against Charlie Brenneman at UFC on FX 3, delivering devastating blows and finishing his opponent with a rear-naked choke submission. Silva is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Jon Fitch but is the entire package, deadly both on the ground and standing. He looks to rebound from the loss to Fitch against Jason High at UFC on FUEL TV 10. UFC Welterweight Contender Jason High (+225) Profile: Jason High (16-3) has been hovering around the big leagues for years starting with Affliction in 2009 when he was knocked out quickly by Jay Hieron. High then moved on to Dream, where he would be the runner-up in their welterweight tournament, losing via headkick to Marius Zaromskis. Post-Dream, High made a brief run in Strikeforce that proved to be both successful and frustrating, with a perfect 3-0 record but only three fights in over two years with the promotion. He is a strong wrestler who has a tight guillotine that has won him matches in mere seconds. Look at High as a smaller Tyron Woodley but with a better submission game. Opening UFC on FUEL TV 10 Odds Analysis: MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas made Silva large -305 favorite (bet $305 to win $100) while High opened as a +225 underdog (bet $100 to win $225) at Several Bookmakers sportsbook. Despite losing to Fitch, Silva remains an intriguing prospect with a lot of potential while High is more unproven even though he brings a seven-fight winning streak into the bout. To put in perspective, High’s winning streak includes fights in five different organizations, and the last three in Strikeforce did not come against any big names, which is no fault of his own. Meanwhile, Silva is 2-2 in the UFC with losses to Fitch and Carlo Prater and only one other career setback coming against Mario Neto at Superfight Vitoria back in 2006. Two of the losses came via unanimous decision, and the other was a DQ due to Silva striking the back of the head of Prater. A key consideration for these two fighters with regards to prop betting is that Silva has finished 11 opponents (three knockouts and eight submissions) among his 14 wins compared to High, who has 10 stoppages (three TKO/KOs and seven subs) among his 16 victories.
