UFC 160 took place Saturday night and now, just two after the event, two of the fighters who competed on the card have revealed injuries that occurred in their bouts. The first is Mark Hunt, who revealed on his official Facebook page that he broke his toe in the first round of his fight against Junior dos Santos. Hunt, who was knocked out in stunning fashion in the third round, looked solid early on, throwing his trademark left hook and clipping dos Santos on the chin a few times before suffering the injury, one he says limited his mobility for the rest of the fight. Although Hunt lost and dos Santos will now get a shot at the UFC heavyweight championship, Hunt remains one of the top-10 heavyweights in the world and will always be involved in big fights as long as he keeps competing. Although he’s 39, Hunt is still a very heavy hitter and always dangerous so once he heals up from this toe injury, he’ll be an absolute force in the division. Some may fade him a bit in his next outing because he was knocked out but I won’t. I still think he’s a beast and if he continues to be available at big plus money, I will continue to bet him. The next fighter to get injured was Donald Cerrone, who received a nasty cut above his right eye as well as a massive gash on his right elbow during his fight against KJ Noons, a fight Cerrone won via unanimous decision. Cerrone posted a picture of the cuts today and they were absolutely nasty. Although he dominated the fight with Noons from bell to bell, the fact that Cerrone was so beat up at the end of three rounds was absolutely startling considering it didn’t seem like Noons did much at all during the fight. There’s no doubt in my mind that Cerrone is one of the top-10 lightweights in the world but I don’t like the fact that he keeps looking worse for wear coming out of his fights. I already started to fade him after the beating he took from Nate Diaz at UFC 141 and I will continue to do so in his next fight. It’s been rumored that Cerrone will next face off against Josh Thomson and if that’s the fight that the UFC books, expect the opening betting line to open around a Pick ’em, because Thomson isn’t respected by the public yet Cerrone always is. And if that’s the case, I’m going to be making a very large bet on Thomson, because I feel as though he’s a far superior fighter to Cerrone and he didn’t take much, if any, punishment against Diaz in his last fight. And finally, it’s not an injury but TJ Grant, who knocked out Gray Maynard, has requested he gets his title shot against UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at UFC 165 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on September 21. Grant looks like an absolute monster at lightweight and although Henderson has gone 7-0 in the UFC so far, I honestly believe that Grant can defeat him, and I think he can even knock the champion out. If Grant is available at plus money for the fight with Henderson, I would have to recommend a bet on him.
