Post-UFC on FOX 22: On the Chopping Block

Cole MillerThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Sacramento, CA this past Saturday night with UFC on FOX 22: VanZant vs Waterson. It was an entertaining night of action, despite the fact that only four of 13 scheduled bouts ended inside the distance. Now that the scraps are in our rear-view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Cole Miller Miller came up very short in a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Japan’s Mizuto Hirota, and he is now winless in four bouts inside the Octagon. I think there is a very good chance the UFC will now opt to part ways with the TUF 5 veteran, especially considering the fact that he has been outspoken about how poorly he feels he has been getting treated by the promotion. At this point, I think there is a very good chance we have seen the last of “Magrinho” inside the Octagon. James Moontasri Moontasri lost a unanimous decision to Alex Morono and is now on a two-fight skid inside the Octagon. He outstruck the Legacy FC veteran in the first frame, but his cardio failed him in the second, as Morono was the fresher fighter who picked up the pace and dominated the fight en route to a scorecard win, nearly scoring a TKO finish along the way. Now on a two-fight deficit and with only a 2-4 record in the UFC, I think there is a good chance the UFC sends “Moonwalker” his pink slip. Takeya Mizugaki Mizugaki suffered a first-round TKO at the hands of Eddie Wineland in Sacramento this past Saturday night and has now dropped to straight fights via knockout, the previous coming in under a minute of the first round against current 135-pound title challenger Cody Garbrandt. Now on a two-fight losing streak and 1-4 in his last five, I think there is a fair chance that the UFC releases the Japanese veteran. I think the best decision would be to give him a long layoff and then one last crack in a year or so, considering how valuable he has been to the division and would be an easy scoop-up for Bellator.
