Post-UFC Fight Night 101 Matchmaking Predictions

Jake MatthewsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) traveled to Melboure, Victoria, Australia for the second time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 101: Whittaker vs Brunson. The night of scraps had its ups and downs, but mostly downs, seeing 10 of 13 bouts go the distance. The Fight Night action is now in behind us, so let’s take a look at some potential matchups featuring a few of the competitors from the evening… Robert Whittaker vs. Gegard Mousasi This is apparently the fight everybody wants to see, so why not? I think this potential middleweight showdown would be the perfect fit as the co-main event for UFC 208 in Anaheim, CA. Jake Matthews vs. Paul Felder Matthews came up short in a split decision to Indiana native Andrew Holdbrook and is now on a two-fight losing streak inside the Octagon. For his next outing, I would like to see him take on Philadelphia’s Paul Felder, who is coming off a third-round TKO (doctor stoppage) loss to Francisco Trinaldo and will be looking to return to the win column his next time out. I think a potential Matthews versus Felder matchup would be a great addition to any fight card, and I would personally like to see it added to the preliminary card for February’s UFC 209 in Brooklyn. I think these two 155-pounders would produce fireworks and be a solid addition to what should be a stacked, great card. “The Irish Dragon” would enjoy somewhat of a home advantage with this bout since Brooklyn is so close to Philadelphia. He would even get a bigger roar, should Conor McGregor get booked on this card and draw out an Irish crowd. Tyson Pedro vs. Steve Bosse This would be a fun scrap in the UFC’s light heavyweight division, with Pedro coming off a first-round rear-naked choke win over Khalil Rountree this past weekend in what was his promotional debut, and Bosse coming off a controversial unanimous-decision win over Utah’s Sean O’Connell earlier this year. I think this potential matchup makes sense in the UFC’s 205-pound division, and I would like to see it booked for a future fight card, preferably on the main card for February’s UFC Fight Night in Nova Scotia, where Bosse would have the home advantage. Jason Knight vs. Andre Fili I think a potential featherweight showdown between Jason “The Kid” Knight and Andre “Touchy” Fili would make for an excellent matchup ,and I would enjoy seeing it booked on a future fight card. I think it would be a perfect fit to headline the Fight Pass prelims for March’s UFC 210 in Las Vegas. Knight just earned a unanimous-decision victory over Daniel Hooker and now enjoys a two-fight winning streak inside the Octagon. Fili is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Nova Uniao’s Hacran Dias and will be looking to make it two wins in a row his next time out.
