UFC returned for a free event today (Saturday, November 12th, 2016). The card was headlined by a middleweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall. All in all, nine favorites won, while four upsets occurred. Here’s how everything played out based on the Several Bookmakers closing odds: Favorites That Won In a middleweight main event, Gegard Mousasi earned revenge against Uriah Hall. Mousasi stood with Hall for three minutes, but then took Hall down, eventually swarming him with heavy punches which were unanswered to earn a first round TKO victory. Mousasi redeemed himself as a heavy -530 favorite (Bet $530 to win $100) while Hall closed as a +455 underdog. In a lightweight co-main event, Stevie Ray utilized good outside movement mixed with heavy kicks to thwart veteran Ross Pearson over the course of three rounds, eventually winning a split decision victory. Ray was -110 favorite while Pearson was +100. In a flyweight fight, Kyoji Horiguchi utilized his speed and striking to outwork and outpace Ali Bagautinov over the course of three rounds to win a unanimous decision. Horiguchi was a hefty -192 favorite while Bagautinov was +177. In a lightweight war, Kevin Lee utilized his wrestling against Magomed Mustafaev’s ferocious striking, eventually wearing the striker down and earning a submission victory late in round two. Lee was a -140 favorite while Mustafaev lost as a +130 dog. In a heavyweight scrap, Justin Ledet surprisingly took Mark Godbeer down, then attacked with a rear naked choke when Godbeer tried to take the fight to the floor himself, earning a first round submission victory. Ledet won as a -140 favorite while Godbeer was a +130 underdog. In a welterweight battle, Zak Cummings put good pressure on Alexander Yakovlev, eventually forcing a takedown, earning top position and tapping Yakovlev out with a beautiful inverted triangle straight armbar. Cummings was victorious as a -165 favorite while Yakovlev was +155. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Marion Reneau weathered the early storm from Milana Dudieva, eventually battering Dudieva in the clinch and then hammering her with third round ground and pound to force a stoppage. Reneau was victorious as a -215 favorite while Dudieva lost at +195. In a bantamweight fight, Brett Johns showcased excellent grappling and top control against Kwan Ho Kwak, winning all three rounds and even landing some decent shots on the feet to earn a unanimous decision victory. Johns won as a -210 favorite while Kwak was +190. In the opening bout of the evening, welterweight Abdul Razak Alhassan made a great first impression by blistering fellow UFC newcomer Charlie Ward with a knockout inside the opening minute. Alhassan was a -315 favorite while Ward closed as a +285 dog. Underdogs That Won In a heavyweight bout, Alexander Volkov survived getting knocked down in the first round to land some good damage on Timothy Johnson over the final two frames, clearly winning the third round as Johnson faded, earning a split decision. Volkov was a slight +135 (Bet $100 to win $135) underdog while Johnson was -145. In another big upset, featherweights Artem Lobov and Teruto Ishihara threw down. Lobov outworked Ishihara, landing heavy kicks and frustrating the Japanese fighter with his movement, although he did get knocked down late in the third round. In the end, Lobov won a unanimous decision. Lobov was a hefty +230 underdog while Ishihara lost despite being a -250 favorite. In a middleweight fight, Jack Marshman earned a knockdown in the first round against Magnus Cedenblad and then put the Swede away with a knockout in the second. Cedenblad had success with his grappling and his jab, but Marshman’s aggression and power overcame him. Marshman was a +220 dog while Cedenblad was a -240 favorite. In a strawweight fight, Amanda Bobby Cooper survived an early knockdown to outwork and punish Anna Elmose over the course of three rounds to earn an upset decision victory. Cooper was a +125 underdog while Elmose was a -135 betting favorite.
